Connected enterprise transformation
Operating model, workforce, capability, execution and value designed as one system.
How GC helped the retail and commercial banking division of one of Africa's largest financial services groups connect operating model, workforce, capability, execution and value realisation.
Selected evidence of enterprise significance
Operating model, workforce, capability, execution and value designed as one system.
One journey from diagnostic evidence and redesign through operationalisation and value.
Designed, graded and benchmarked within an integrated role and capability architecture.
Client value-realisation reporting linked two years of budget optimisation to material cost avoidance contributing to group profitability.
Customer priorities connected to budget, dependencies, capability and execution.
Marketing investment connected to customer behaviour, financial performance and enterprise value.
01 / The challenge
The engagement began with a focused requirement: build future-fit marketers through structured learning. The diagnostic revealed that capability was only part of the problem.
Marketing operated through a federated model spanning retail, commercial, international and specialist entities. It supported local accountability, but also created duplicated activity, inconsistent practices and uneven alignment to the enterprise brand and customer strategy.
Instead of forcing the original brief through an environment that could not sustain it, GC helped leadership redefine the mandate around the organisational system that capability needed in order to take hold.
02 / The transformation journey
Eight interdependent phases. One connected transformation. Capability informed the operating model; the operating model reshaped the workforce; execution created the need for stronger value articulation.
Marketing Hub diagnostic and learning architecture
Target operating model, structure, roles and capabilities
Four-level Marketing Hub across the full community
Workforce formalisation and structured HR handover
Immersive Virtual Marketing Hub and knowledge ecosystem
New joiner, ExCo and train-the-trainer programmes
Five enterprise programmes linking strategy and budget
ROMI architecture connecting customers, finance and value
GC began with a diagnostic across strategy, organisation, capability, behaviour and ways of working. The evidence reframed the need and informed an integrated Marketing Target Operating Model spanning structure, governance, role architecture, performance, capabilities and an activity-based marketing value chain. Fifty-nine role profiles were designed, graded and benchmarked.
Delivered during COVID-19, the Marketing Hub reached more than 200 marketers through four differentiated levels spanning the full community, practitioners, middle management and ExCo. GC then supported the formal workforce transition through organisation and role-impact design, resourcing, consultation, communication, change planning and programme management.
An immersive Virtual Marketing Hub preserved the learning ecosystem and gave marketers continued access to programmes, videos, recordings, infographics and supporting content. Targeted Accelerator programmes onboarded more than 100 new joiners and five incoming ExCo members, while train-the-trainer transferred delivery capability to internal facilitators.
Five integrated enterprise programmes connected customer priorities to programme architecture, financial drivers, capability requirements, dependencies and management information. In parallel, a bespoke ROMI architecture translated customer behaviour into income, Customer Lifetime Value, Customer Equity and longer-term enterprise value.
03 / The integrated delivery
The depth of the mandate sat in the integration. GC connected organisational design, workforce transition, capability, programme execution and value realisation so that no individual intervention had to carry the transformation alone.
The diagnostic became an integrated organisational architecture—not a standalone learning response.
The operating model was translated into a structured workforce journey spanning formalisation, transition and handover.
Capability was designed across the full community and reinforced through physical, virtual and internally owned delivery mechanisms.
GC moved beyond operating-model activation to engineer the programme system through which customer strategy could be executed.
A bespoke value architecture connected marketing activity to customer behaviour, financial performance and longer-term enterprise value.
04 / Value realisation
Across the wider Marketing strategy and operating-model journey, client value-realisation reporting recorded material financial and effectiveness benefits. GC later extended that value discipline into a bespoke Return on Marketing Investment architecture.

A shared decision language
Presented at Group CFO level alongside the CMO and Marketing Finance leadership, the architecture created a stronger shared agenda across Marketing, Finance, Sales, Growth and Product.
GC delivered the architecture, data requirements, executive playbook and phased roadmap. The client absorbed the next production phase internally.
05 / What changed
The programme did not leave behind a single intervention. It left a connected transformation architecture.
One Marketing Target Operating Model spanning organisation, capability, governance, performance and ways of working.
Fifty-nine architected roles, a whole-function people-change journey and structured handover for final workforce processes.
A system covering the full community, new joiners, middle management and ExCo—with internal capability to continue.
Five enterprise programmes connecting strategy and customer opportunity to budget, sequencing and delivery.
Client reporting documented material cost avoidance and effectiveness gains; ROMI connected future investment to customer, financial and enterprise value.
06 / The strategic elevation
Each stage widened the mandate only where evidence demanded it. The result was not more activity; it was a more complete system for converting strategy into coordinated performance and value.

Rigorous architecture, practical delivery and genuine partnership—staying long enough to make the design executable while building the client's ability to continue without dependence.
GC transferred ownership at the right points: to Human Capital for final workforce processes, to internal facilitators through train-the-trainer and to client teams for programme implementation and the next ROMI phase.
When the problem is bigger than the original brief
If your strategy is sound but the organisation, capabilities and execution system are not moving together, GC can help connect them—and work alongside your team until it becomes real.
